How we support your child’s diagnosis

Our paediatric imaging and diagnostics team supports clinical investigation across a broad range of symptoms, including persistent pain, unexplained swelling, orthopaedic follow-up (fracture clinic), neurological symptoms, and recurrent infections.

Scans and tests can be daunting for both children and parents. Our compassionate staff take time to listen, support, and answer questions to help you feel as supported as possible. We’re also able to offer child-appropriate testing, with lower doses of radiation and reduced scan times, to help further put your mind at ease.

Walk-in X-ray and blood test service

We’re proud to offer a walk-in service for X-rays and blood testing. There’s no booking required; simply arrive with a referral form from your GP, consultant, or specialist doctor, and we’ll see you as soon as possible. For X-rays, we’re open 8am to 8pm, Mon to Fri, and 9am to 4pm Sat. For blood tests, we’re open 8am to 8pm Mon to Fri, and 8am to 4pm Sat. Please ensure you follow any fasting or other preparation instructions from your referrer before arriving for tests. Don't hesitate to reach out to our team with any queries.

We offer a full range of paediatric imaging and diagnostic techniques, including blood tests, X-ray, CT, DEXA, and MRI*. *Age ranges vary for some tests, such as MRI, which is available to children aged 7+. Please contact the centre directly for more information.

If your child is having blood tests, you can stay with them throughout. Your child can also sit on your lap if this helps them feel more comfortable.

If your child is having an imaging test, like an X-ray or MRI, the radiographer will advise on the safety measures required. It’s not always possible for you to stay with your child for these types of tests. If you’re unsure, please contact the centre ahead of time for information.

If needle or canula insertion is required to properly perform a test, we’ll make you're made aware of this ahead of time. A numbing cream called EMLA cream can be applied before needle or cannula insertion – please arrive 1 hour early if this is required. We may also use freeze spray for those over 12 years of age.
